Afros, bell bottoms, and no email

My wife and I have recently been watching some PBS series where modern families live like people from previous eras. We thoroughly enjoyed Frontier House (living like 1870's pioneers in Montana) and have just started Colonial House (living like New England settlers in the 1600's). I recently learned that a British company is putting together a similar show covering the last three decades of the 20th century. It should help remind us what life was like before widespread use of microwaves, computers, and cell phones...frankly, my own memory is getting a little hazy.

What modern conveniences would you have the hardest time living without? And what aspects of life in 2008 do you think future generations will find quaint or even unbearable?

I think the cell phone would be hardest to do without - it really helps me feel safer, and I like being in contact with people at one number from anywhere.

It is amazing to be how fast it has become an item everyone has - when I was in high school (96-2000), they were just becoming widespread, and now it's unusual for a person not to have one.

Oh, and of course, it would be hard for me to live without the internet :)
